The Town of Spellbound Cove
If ever there is a visitor…
Anchored to the rocky cliffs, the seaside town of Spellbound Cove is no ordinary town, and its people are no ordinary people. It’s a town one can’t see driving by, let alone visit. The only ones who can see and live in it are the magical residents. Driving by, all one can see is a craggy cove off the highway; no lookouts, no turnoffs, nothing to view.
In Spellbound Cove, a Main Street where shops, restaurants, and markets line up on each side, splits the town in half. Builders constructed each building with either wood or brick, incorporating cozy, ornate details like rounded or slated rooftops. On the ocean’s side, the backs of the businesses are only a half mile away from the sea, where rock formations tower against the sun. On the inland side, there are cottages where most of the residents live.
Yard decor and detritus from the sea lovingly adorn the cottages. Differing pastel colors paint the cottages: canary yellow, baby blue, light pink, and so forth. Navigational terms give names to streets, such as Anchor Lane, Rutter Road, and Squall Circle.
In town, everyone knows each other, yet they don’t know everything there is to know. They each have desires and dreams kept to themselves. The most they know is that they all practice magic.
Spellbound Cove thrives on magic, like the moon coaxing the ocean to make waves; the town depends on it. Some people employ simple magic, for instance, levitating an object, or complex magic, like creating a delightful garden shed, while banned magic, such as mind reading, is prohibited. As long as the residents use their magic, Spellbound Cove will exist.
How did Spellbound Cove get founded? Who built it, and why is it magical? Perhaps the library holds the answers. The Spellbound Cove library anchors the town. Everyone visits the library to get answers to their secret questions. The library is the most magical place of all - the stories the books hold come alive.
Manned by a dedicated staff, the Spellbound Cove Library provides a wealth of knowledge; whether patrons like the answers is a different story. This courageous staff must tame the beasts that roar out of the books, or cut back landscapes that have crept through the pages, or negotiate between characters who have wandered off from their settings. The library staff wears various hats daily.
